Chinese solar company Jinko Solar Holding Co, Ltd. shipped solar modules with a total capacity of 17.76 gigawatts (GW) in the second quarter of this year, in addition to sales of 850 megawatts of wafers and solar cells not required by Jinko itself. The total shipment volume of 18.61 GW represents an increase of 28.5 percent over the first quarter and 76.7 percent over the same period last year.
Second quarter revenue of 30.69 billion renminbi yuan ($4.23 billion) was up 31.5 percent from the previous quarter and 76.7 percent from the second quarter of 2022. Jinko reported gross profit of 4.78 billion yuan ($659 million), up 18.4 percent from the first quarter and 72.5 percent from a year earlier. Adjusted net profit of 1.31 billion yuan ($181 million) rose 65.6 percent quarter-on-quarter; net result was negative in the second quarter of 2022.
Of the modules shipped in the second quarter of this year, nearly 59 percent, or 10.4 GW, were equipped with solar cells made of n-type silicon. Jinko says it thus is the first manufacturer in the world to sell more than ten GW of -n-type modules in one quarter.
The company takes an optimistic view of global demand for solar modules and, in particular, of its own sales opportunities, and has therefore raised its forecast of 60 to 70 GW of module sales for the full year 2023 to 70 to 75 GW.
